Sacramento murder suicide: Sara and Sophia Rouin remembered after the shocking murder by their father, Hamdy Rouin

Westmore Oaks Elementary School in West Sacramento was difficult scene, full of tears as the community rallied to gather together at the school to remember Sara and Sophia Rouin. Sara was 9-years-old. Sophia was 7-years-old: both murdered by their father, Hamdy Rouin.

Hamby Rouin, 46, was found dead in the driver’s seat of his car in West Sacramento, California.

The school’s principal Stacey Falconer shared heartfelt words and beautiful memories of the girls. She called them “two of the sweetest souls you could ever meet.”

“Recently, she willingly placed herself in the middle of a group of angry fifth grade girls, ready to [fight],” said Falconer. “[Sara] convinced all of them to stand down…we will miss Sara.”

Falconer described Sophia as an intelligent and passionate seventh grader, who had a huge heart for helping others.

“[Sophia] was helping to build two solar suitcases, sent to a school in Kenya to provide electricity, so their students too can pursue an education,” said Falconer. “She gives 100% to every endeavor. That’s who she was. Friendly and kind. We will miss Sophia.”

A sign students made for the vigil put it best: “Goodbyes hurt the most when the story wasn’t finished.”

Hamdy Rouin, who according to Yolo County coroner’s officials also went by the name Mohamed Rouine and was facing two misdemeanor counts of violating a domestic violence restraining order obtained by his ex-wife, the girls’ mother.

Supporters of the girls’ mother, Amy Hunter, have established a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral and burglary expenses. It had be read HERE:

Peace and blessings be upon you all,

On behalf of Amy and her family, we want to thank everyone for their outpouring support, donations, thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time. It just goes to show how much of an impact Sophia and Sara have had in all of our lives and how loved they were.

We originally started this GoFundMe as a way to raise funds for the funeral/burial expenses of Sophia and Sara. We raised that amount of money quickly due to everyone coming together at a time of need.

Now we want to focus all our love and support to Amy. As some of you may know, she is a preschool teacher at Caring Connections. Teaching and taking care of children is something that she loves to do, but we know that at this time, she needs to take time off to heal.

We are raising the goal to $50,000 so that she can at least take one year off of work if she needs to, and use that time to truly focus on herself, heal her heart, and look to the future.

This will be the last official update on GoFundMe, but please like or visit our Facebook page to post any more memories of Sophie and Sara that you may have.

Thank you all for the love and support you have shown. May we continue to come together as a community, just like what Sophia and Sara would have wanted.
