‘Rogue One’ art revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2016 in Europe
Revealed during The Star Wars Show, Disney’s official weekly Star Wars webseries, is a funny video from the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII featuring director Rian Johnson and Chewbacca and key art for Star Wars Celebration Europe, which features both the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens/Episode 8 and the new cast for Star Wars: Rogue One.
An amalgam of the characters compose the full poster and the closer look reveals a squadron of Death Troopers, which fans saw in the Star Wars: Rogue One trailer. Also clear is a good look at the film’s new class of AT-AT’s called AT-ACT which stands for All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport. Close ups at the bottom.
The Death Star, Star Destroyers, AT-AT Walkers and Stormtroopers and also a young Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) are all revealed in the previous footage. Rogue One will have a strong female lead, this time Felicity Jones playing a new character named Jyn Erso. Erso is key to the rebels’ plan to steal the Death Star plans, the same plans carried by Princess Leia in the opening of A New Hope.
An appearance by Darth Vader seems likely, but no Han, Luke or typical lightsaber battles are expected. Forest Whitaker takes center stage as a mysterious character and Jones will be join by a new batch of actors primed for stardom: Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna.
Ben Mendelsohn is the new character walking in the long white cape. The was no reveal of Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen and little else in the way of plot.
Fans get their yearly dose of Star Wars as Rogue One arrives in theaters on December 16, 2016.
