Ride 2 Recovery: Honor Ride Tampa and UnitedHealthcare partner to help veterans

Global Dispatch 200x119PRESS RELEASE: Saturday, February 1, 2014, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) of Florida will be a regional partner of the Honor Ride Tampa, a fun, non-competitive cycling event that is part of Ride 2 Recovery (R2R), a national program that supports physical and psychological rehabilitation cycling programs for injured veterans.

Exercise and rehabilitation services are critically important to help injured veterans enjoy a return to the health and well-being they richly deserve. UHC is a long-standing supporter of R2R’s national multi-day Challenge Rides and regional one-day Honor Rides, which incorporate cycling over a variety of distances using hand cycles, recumbent cycles, tandems and traditional road bikes.

The Honor Ride Tampa helps support important health programs for men and women who served our country. This Honor Ride brings together community and local participants to “Champion” physical and psychological rehabilitation through fitness.

Registration is open to the general public; veterans can ride free of charge.

Among other veterans and several members and supporters of the Tampa community, one notable locally-based participant this year is cyclist Kathy Champion, a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army, who is actually blind, deaf in one ear, and at one point, was told she would never walk again.
