Ricky Ligons, Tampa man, shot and killed trying to break up a fight in Ybor City
A fight outside of an Ybor City night club resulted in an innocent man, trying to break up the fight, dead in the parking lot.
Ricky Ligons, age 24, was found face down in the parking of Club Ice police say.
Ligons died after being transported to Tampa General Hospital.
Witness Shameka Barber claims she had just left Club Ice and was heading to the parking lot when she saw two women begin to fight. Ligons stepped in and a gunshot scattered the growing crowd.
Barber, who fled initially, saw Ligons on the ground.
“I don’t understand,” witness Hameka Barber said. “He was a nice person. Everyone liked him. We don’t even know what happened to him.”
Police say they do not have any suspects at this time, but they are working on some strong leads.
“I can tell you at this point a gun was displayed, shots were fired, one man was shot in the chest, and he did die at Tampa General Hospital this morning,” Lt. Bill Ferguson said.
Levi Houston, a promoter for Club Ice, drove by the parking lot Friday morning to see the place where his friend had been killed.
“A lot of people woke up this morning and thought it couldn’t be Rick,” Houston told Tampabay.com. “Everybody loves him.”
