Rian Johnson has started on new ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy, ‘excited to dive’ in

Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi redirected the franchise by pushing it into a bold, daring direction and Johnson earned a whole new set of three new films.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Johnson will be getting his own Star Wars trilogy, unrelated to the Skywalker Saga, one that explores a new section of the Star Wars universe.

Empire caught up with Johnson’s long-time producer Ram Bergman at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards and he gave an update on the status of the new films.

According to Bergman, work has already begun.

“We’ve started. Slowly, slowly, but we’ve started. Hopefully soon we’re going to get busier.”

At the same event, the magazine caught up with Johnson himself, who said the following on the matter: “I’m really excited to dive into that and figure out what it’s going to be.”

The Last Jedi became the highest grossing film of 2017 and set the stage for an unexpected end to the Skywalker Saga when Star Wars: Episode IX rolls in the cinemas in 2019.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now available on Digital HD and will be released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on March 27th.
