Republic of Congo to begin mass yellow fever vaccination campaign
The Central African nation announced that an emergency mass yellow fever vaccination campaign would commence next week, according to health officials.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Congo said the campaign would take place in the Ewo District in Cuvette-Ouest region, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) Global Alert and Response Dec. 12.
The campaign will cover some 35,000 people in the three health districts of Mbama, Ewo and Okoyo.
A laboratory-confirmed case of the mosquito borne virus in October is what prompted the campaign.
The vaccination campaign is being supported by the International Coordinating Group on Yellow Fever Vaccine Provision (YF-ICG), the GAVI Alliance and the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO), according to the notice.
The Republic of the Congo, also referred to as Congo-Brazzaville, is a country located in Central Africa. It is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Angolan exclave of Cabinda.
