Reporter informs Donald Trump that calling Elizabeth Warren ‘Pocahontas’ is offensive

Donald Trump bantered with a reporter over his use of the nickname “Pocahontas” to describe Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Nicole Robertson, a reporter who is Native American, attempted to call out the GOP presumptive nominee, saying the label was offensive.

Trump was asked at a press conference Thursday in North Dakota about Warren’s most recent string of tweets criticizing him, Trump said, “Who? Pocahontas?”

Someone in the crowd asked whether the statement was offensive. “Is it offensive? You tell me,” Trump replied.

“It’s very offensive,” Robertson responded. “Sorry.”

Check out the clip below.

Trump went on to bash Warren for failing to document her claim that she is Native American and criticized her for being unable to deliver for the people of Massachusetts in the Senate.

“She tweets a lot about me,” Trump said. “She is a senator that is highly overrated: She’s passed very little legislation; she has been a real disaster for a lot of people including the Democrats, who frankly can’t stand her, many of the Democrats. Just ask Hillary Clinton how she likes her.”

He added: “She’s a woman that’s been very ineffective, other than she’s got a big mouth.”

The controversy began in late April 2012, when the Boston Herald revealed that in the late 1990s Harvard Law School had promoted Warren as a Native American faculty member, based on a report in The Harvard Crimson in 1996: “Although the conventional wisdom among  students and faculty is that  the Law School faculty includes no minority women,  Chmura said Professor of Law Elizabeth Warren is Native American.”

The Harvard Crimson reported similar information in 1998: “Harvard Law School currently has only one tenured minority woman, Gottlieb Professor of Law Elizabeth Warren, who is Native American.”

Warren attacked Trump in a speech at the Center for Popular Democracy against Trump’s admission that he hoped the housing market would crash a few years ago,  she tweeted this:

Watch this video, @realDonaldTrump. Explain why you root for working people to fail. https://youtu.be/q1Mrfu4yE-w

Check out the other tweets below that dropped a few minutes later.

Explain why you don’t pay taxes that our country needs to keep us safe, @realDonaldTrump. https://youtu.be/q1Mrfu4yE-w —

.@realDonaldTrump: I helped family buy their homes and out-of-work construction worker relatives make a living. I’m proud of that.

If @realDonaldTrump actually believes every stupid lie he reads on the Internet, we’re in for a truckload of trouble if he’s President.

Anytime someone calls out @realDonaldTrump, he replies with right-wing conspiracies & lies. It’s not presidential – & getting very old.

I fight for working families every day, @realDonaldTrump. You fight only for Donald Trump.

Fling as much mud as you want, @realDonaldTrump. Your words & actions disqualify you from being President – & I won’t stop saying it.

  1. scott says:

For “keeping truth in the headlines”…..the headline could have included “…for misrepresenting herself as a Native American”

This is a large componenet of her career trajectory…..and should be investigated.

  2. Your Name... says:

Pretending to be Native American For profit…..worse than Trump calling her out.
