Rapper Drake’s Toronto OVO Fest after party ends with another shooting: 2 dead, 3 or more injured

A shooting at a Toronto nightclub event hosted by rapper Drake and then continued in the streets outside early Tuesday left two people dead and at least three others wounded, police said as they are still seeking details surrounding the shooting.

The official OVO Fest after-party was the scene as police responded to calls of shots fired at the club around 3:30 a.m. It wasn’t clear if Drake was present during the shooting.

Supt. Frank Bergen said the victims were a man and woman in their 20s and 30s. He said three other people were hospitalized with various injuries. Police believe there could be more victims at other locations and urged citizens to contact authorities.

Bergen said Tuesday that police are “satisfied at this point that the organization involved was doing their best” and the shooting occurred as things were shutting down for the evening.

Bergen called the after-party “a well-run event with police officers in and around the nightclub.”

Police have not announced if they had any suspects or made arrests, or what led to the shooting.

According to police there are three crime scenes: inside the Muzik nightclub, north of the club and south-west of the club.

“We believe that there were some sporadic events that occurred elsewhere, that’s why we are asking that anyone who has information is to call our service at Homicide,” said Bergen.

Witnesses are urged to contact Division 14 police at 416-808-1400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

This is the second year in a row that the OVO Fest has ended in violence as a similar incident occurred in front of Muzik last year when a 28-year-old man was shot on Aug. 5, 2014.
