Rand Paul argues against E-Verify and the ‘photo tool’ measure in the Senate Immigration bill

In a recent Op-Ed in the Washington Times, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) makes his case against E-verify and the photo tool, two measures found in the immigration-reform bill that passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

“Many see measures contained in this bill, such as a strong E-Verify and a “photo tool,” as a means to control unlawful immigrants’ access to unlawful employment. I worry that they go too far, Paul says.

“I think there are better ideas that err on the side of individual privacy while still strengthening our borders. We should scrap a national identification database and pass immigration reform that secures the border, expands existing work-visa programs and prevents non citizens from access to welfare. These simple ideas will eliminate the perceived need for an invasive worker-verification system and a government citizenship database.”

Paul has said numerous times that employers shouldn’t be required to be policeman and manage E- verify. Paul is not alone in this matter, Chris Calabrese of the American Civil Liberties Union said, “Employers are not police officers, except in this one context where we suddenly want them to be law enforcement agents who are going to police their workforce.”

In addition, some experts say that E-verify doesn’t have the greatest track record. Immigration policy analyst at the Cato Institute’s Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity, Alex Nowrasteh wrote last week, “The biggest flaw in the Senate immigration bill is “E-Verify,” a national electronic employment verification system that checks identity information of job applicants against government databases. E-Verify is in theory supposed to keep unlawful immigrants out of the labor market. But in reality, not only will it fail to keep people out, it will also hinder job creation with expensive new regulations.

“Error rates reported by government and private audits of E-Verify are extraordinarily high. E-Verify mistakenly approves a majority of unlawful immigrant job applicants and, worse, misidentifies about one percent of American applicants as unlawful. That opens up another legal odyssey for many Americans who should not have to ask permission from the federal government to work.”

Calabrese told Reason, “If E-Verify becomes mandatory, the result will be that you will essentially have to get cleared with a government right-to-work list before you can start a job. And that’s a huge change.”

Sen. Paul is also very concerned about a national ID card. The Senate immigration bill contains language that would, over the next five years, expand the nation’s current photo database system to include all Americans, not just foreigners and US passport holders.

Paul says, “I am against the idea that American citizens should be forced to carry around a National Identification Card as a condition of citizenship. I worry that the Senate is working to consider a series of little-noticed provisions in comprehensive immigration reform that may provide a pathway to a national ID card for all individuals present in the United States — citizens and noncitizens. These draconian ideas would simply give government too much power.

“Forcing Americans to carry around an identification card to affirmatively prove citizenship offends our basic concept of freedom.

“I will fight to remove the photo tool from this legislation because I think it will become a national ID. We already know the federal government is rife with false positives on the no-fly list and the National Instant Check system for gun buyers. Why would we be foolish enough to think that a massive database of all citizens would not have the same problems on a grander scale?”

Conservatives and any patriotic American has a right to send angry flak to every one of the 60 Senators and House Representatives and expose them to the resentment and irritation of not being able be heard on this significant Immigration reform that further places the citizens and legal resident in a taxpayer nightmare. Americans are spending even more on illegal aliens, asylum seekers and the families of new citizens who sponsored family members, then abandoned them and left taxpayers to cover their survival costs.

It seems that the Obama administration has a hard time telling the truth, especially when it comes to the actually numbers spilling like insects over a supposedly secure single fence. Single fence you say? Well to be honest it isn’t supposed to be? The fence that was an actual act passed by Congress, was killed by both parties for reasons that are obscure? But then what can we expect from a government headed by President Obama who has done more to divide the American people than the provisional president Jefferson Davis when the South ceded from the Union in 1861.

President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with three illegal [aliens] who have been granted deferred action legal status in the Oval Office last Tuesday. Meanwhile, Obama still refuses to meet with any border security enforcement officers about any aspect of immigration reform. We should all remember that if this bill passes in Senate and House, our democracy will break down and it will be an end to the two party political systems. The larger proportion of illegal aliens, who eventually will become citizens will bring in a new era of Democratic Socialism, free food stamps for all and a national healthcare system and incredible rise in taxes to pay for the freeloaders and spongers, who are the parasites of the working man/women.
    Immigration a numbers game

Security along the U.S. border with Mexico is perhaps the key factor in the debate over comprehensive immigration reform. Those who believe the border is mostly secure already are more inclined to support the plan of the bipartisan Gang of Eight in the Senate — legalization first, followed by enhanced security. Those who believe the border is still far from secure are more likely to oppose the Gang of Eight’s approach, insisting that heightened security measures be in place before the nation’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants are legalized. Now, a new report from the Council on Foreign Relations could have a significant effect on the conversation — and cast real doubt on whether the government’s border security statistics are reliable. If the report is correct, more illegal immigrants are making it past U.S. authorities than officials say. And just as important, the report suggests it is nearly impossible to have an informed debate about border security because the government does not reveal the most basic information.

Glenn Spencer — American Border Patrol

The National Academy of Sciences reported that DHS would not release detailed apprehension data because it would be made public.
Apprehension data are given by Border Patrol Sector – not by individual station. Much of the Yuma Sector is has been fenced and we can see the impact on apprehensions. Much of the eastern part of the Tucson Sector is fenced, but the western part is mostly open.
Individual station data showed that fencing in San Diego worked — and Janet Napolitano should release individual station date for the Tucson Sector — at least.
American Patrol Report — May 29
The National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers has produced a video on UTube (NAFBPO Border Presentation” that documents conditions on the U.S. — Mexico border. Zack Taylor, a well-educated and experienced retired U.S Border Patrol Agent, narrates the 23-minute video.
The video presents irrefutable evidence of the danger of the border region and the gross negligence of our government. “I can think of no more reliable source for this kind of information than former Border Patrol Officers,” said Glenn Spencer of American Border Patrol. “Everything I saw on this video agrees totally with my experience in studying the border problem in Arizona for the past ten years, but it’s even worse than I thought,” he added.
For example, the video gives details of how illegal aliens started major fires, and how our government worked to cover up the issue. One of the fires covered is the Monument Fire in Cochise County (see this report) on the American Patrol website of May 16, 2012.
NAFBO reports that the State Department would not allow the Forest Service to tell the truth about how this devastating fire was started.
Please take the time to watch this video and remember that the entire nation is a stake.

Although the Senate Mark up is now in the past, the full Senate must have 60 votes to pass this illegal alien amnesty. We must strike while the iron is hot and millions of Americans now have a chance to bombard both U.S. Senators and Congressman/women about this outrageous G8 reform bill and stop it in its tracks? By now we all should know the Left and its advocates are well versed in able to manipulate the press, social networks, agenda negatives as the race card and so called Politically Correct terminology to engineer much of the populace with their Socialist agenda. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE GETTING SOFT AND SEEM NOT TO CARE ABOUT WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS? We must do the same otherwise all is lost? They will be phoning, faxing and getting in the face of politicians in their office, so we must do the same by phoning Washington switchboard at toll-free t 1-888-978-3094? Every day are adding even more dollars to support not only foreigners, but the deeper depth of deadbeats who according to Washington is nearly half of the working people. Look to NumbersUSA and American Patrol for more help to learn more. Do not pass the buck to others and start doing your part now.

IF Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) FINDS AGREEMENT WITH American Civil Liberties Union [ACLU], HE IS IN TROUBLE. OBVIOUSLY, Senator Paul IS “STICKING HIS TOE IN THE WATER” FOR A 2016 RUN – BUT, HE WILL NEED A CONSERVATIVE BASE; ACCORDING TO CONSERVATIVES, ACLU IS AT THE FRONT OF THE “IMMORALITY LINE.”
