Rachael Taylor talks Hellcat in ‘Jessica Jones’ season 2 and beyond

Marvel’s Netflix cinematic universe had another massive success with Jessica Jones, but fans didn’t get to see Rachael Taylor’s Hellcat actually surface, despite some fight scenes, training and allusions to a passionate heart to fight against evil.

Speaking with Comic Book Resources, the actress said of her character’s superhero potential, saying that “I try not to get ahead of myself and think about it too much, because it’s easy to get carried away and think about things. You don’t want to count your eggs before they hatch, I guess, because we just found out about the second season today — and this is my first show that’s gone to a second season, so I’m super stoked.”

Taylor is alluding to the news that Netflix and Marvel will indeed bring Jessica Jones back for a season two.

“I already feel like I have more than my share, in a way, being on Netflix, being in the Marvel Universe, being in this show that has resonated so deeply with people. But of course, I mean, it would be amazing. I mean, it’s already a privilege to play a history that has so much lineage within the Marvel Universe. And to take it that one step further is something that, yeah, I’d love to get my teeth stuck into whatever happens to the character.”

Patsy’s investigation into how Jessica got her powers and her ex-boyfriend fallout with Nuke were two storylines started, but not tied up after the first season. Moreover, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said during the TCA presentations that they’re open to more Marvel series.

“It’s always possible. All the characters in the universe could also spin out,” he said, though Punisher is the only one rumored for a potential standalone. Hellcat, arguably, doesn’t seem to warrant a spinoff given that her story arc is so intertwined with Jessica’s, but you never know. Let’s hope that, one way or the other, Patsy gets more action.

Fans likely won’t expect a Hellcat series, but having her show up on Luke Cage, The Defenders, Iron Fist or Daredevil would be a pleasant surprise.
