‘Prometheus 2’ update from Ridley Scott: No HR Giger Xenomorphs, more Engineers

The Prometheus sequel is still slated for 2016 and the update from Ridley Scott hints at a film with less creatures and more engineers. Some fans were disappointed with the lack of H.R. Giger inspired Xenomorphs in Prometheus, so this may not be good news.

“The beast is done. Cooked,” he says to Yahoo Movies. “I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’.”

After several sequels Scott says enough is enough.

“But after four (he didn’t count the AvP movies), I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start,” the Gladiator director explained to Yahoo Movies Sept. 24 interview.

As Prometheus ended, there was not a lot of characters left…alive.

“You’ll probably have to go with [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] and [Michael Fassbender’s android David] – without his head. Find out how he gets his head back on!”

So, the new Prometheus sequel will be more interested in its own alien species revealed in the first film, the Engineers. They are seemingly the creators of human life, but still a lot of mystery surrounds them, such as the mysterious “shrine” to the Xenomorphs.

Scott said the movie is currently being written and has gone through 15 drafts. Danny Webb is also reported to be joining the second installment as Morse. Prometheus 2 screenwriter Damon Lindelof’s decision to not pursue on penning the sequel may have been a large contributing factor to the delays as Lindelof is currently busy crafting the script for another sci-fi film called Tomorrowland.

Jake Paglen is set to replace Lindelof as the head screenwriter for Prometheus 2. Before the Prometheus sequel, still set for 2016, his next film, Exodus: Gods and Kings, opens this fall. He is also working on The Martian starring Matt Damon and a sequel to Blade Runner.

The Prometheus sequel will arrive in theaters March 4, 2016.
