Producer talks ‘The Walking Dead’ season 4, Scott Gimple, season 3 finale

Season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead wraps in a couple of weeks and fans are already clamoring for season four details. Talking with Zap It in a March 22 article,  Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd talks about the finale of season three and what lies ahead for Rick and the group.

“What is the saying? ‘Pride goeth before a fall’?”

the-walking-dead-norman-reedus-season-3-photoHurd says the group has become vulnerable, ‘a little too complacent’ and due for “their comeuppance.”

She continued to reassure fans that the exit of Glen Mazzara won’t negatively effect the show.

“Well, we have the same writers. [New showrunner] Scott Gimple wrote some of the key episodes, and he’s been around as long as Glen. I think it’s odd that people think [Mazzara] was fired. The truth is his contract was up and there was a negotiation that ended up not working out. That’s often the case.”

The show is now in Gimple’s control and the producers and execs at AMC sound like they’re 100% behind his “vision.”

“We sit down and bounce ideas around. But because the writers are there day to day, you can’t be the Monday morning quarterback. There’s a lot of feedback, but when we met with Scott even before the announcement was made to see what his vision was, all of us — executive producers, as well as AMC — were incredibly supportive [of his vision].”

Check out the full interview here where Hurd discusses more about the finale, the sexism of the show and deviating from the comic book.

Thanks for sharing this information about The Walking Dead and I don’t really have any concern about the show keeping up the high standards it established throughout its run. I work at DISH with a lot of Walking Dead who can’t wait to see how this season ends, and I have a feeling it’ll be as shocking as ever. I watched some of last week’s episode this morning via the DISH Anywhere app on my iPhone. It’s great that I can watch shows I record when I’m away from home by using this feature.
