Pro-abortionists attack the Title X cuts, defunding Planned Parenthood
The Trump administration proposed the “Protect Life” Rule Friday which would bar entities that receive federal funding for family planning from providing or referring for abortions. Abortion counseling is no longer required for grant recipients under the proposed rule, but it is not prohibited.
That is not how the pro-abortion crowd see this move.
“Today’s proposed rule confirms yet again that this Administration will stop at nothing to undermine women’s health,” wrote the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, which includes liberal Democrats: Barbara Lee (D-CA), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Joe Crowley (D-NY), Nita Lowey (D-NY), Julia Brownley (D-CA), Judy Chu (D-CA), Katherine Clark (D-MA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), and Jackie Speier (D-CA).
“Anti-reproductive health extremists in the White House and at the Department of Health and Human Services have teamed up with Congressional Republicans and anti-abortion organizations to craft this policy. Not only are they doubling down on their crusade to penalize and defund Planned Parenthood, they are proposing a ‘gag rule’ on providers from referring for or even talking about abortion.”
Extremists?
How many Americans were struck by the undercover videos of Planned Parenthood’s practice, lack of regard for fetal tissue or the sale of fetal material?
Rolling Stone writes “How Trump Is Trying to Effectively Ban Abortion”: “Stop receiving vital Title X funding or stop providing/referring/counseling about abortion. Either way, recipients and their patients will be harmed.”
Note the contradiction because we are told that abortions are ONLY 3% of Planned Parenthood’s business, but this cut will be harmful and devastating, stating in the article that the company will “feel a huge blow.”
“…once again, social conservatives are using the bodies of poor people, most often poor women of color, to bolster their anti-abortion credentials.”
Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement that “everyone has the right to information about their health care — including information about safe, legal abortion, and every woman deserves the best medical care and information, no matter how much money she makes or where she lives. No matter what. They won’t get it under this rule.”
Full press release from the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus
Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO), alongside House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY), Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY), Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA), Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA), Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), and Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA), released the following statement after reports that the Department of Health and Human Services today will announce President Trump’s proposed rule to gut Title X:
“Today’s proposed rule confirms yet again that this Administration will stop at nothing to undermine women’s health. Anti-reproductive health extremists in the White House and at the Department of Health and Human Services have teamed up with Congressional Republicans and anti-abortion organizations to craft this policy. Not only are they doubling down on their crusade to penalize and defund Planned Parenthood, they are proposing a ‘gag rule’ on providers from referring for or even talking about abortion.
“Make no mistake, this proposed rule has one purpose: to limit women’s access to care.
“We are sick and tired of Republicans’ relentless attacks on every aspect of people’s private lives. This proposed rule demonstrates a callous disregard for the wellbeing of American women and families. From pushing an ideological abstinence-only agenda and denying low-income families access to contraceptives, to completely ignoring the rule of law and precedents established under Roe v. Wade – it’s clear that this Administration does not value Americans’ rights to accurate health information, comprehensive healthcare, or if and when one chooses to have a family.”
