According to reports, on Monday 52-year-old Prince Andrew geared up and descended Europe’s tallest skyscraper, the Shard. Prince Andrew, who is fourth in line for the throne, is only one of about 40 people who have descended the mammoth building.

Prince Andrew made his heroic charge down the building to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that teaches children through outdoor learning as well as the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

“It’s all about giving people the confidence and understanding that they can do this kind of thing,” said Prince Andrew in an interview following his descent. “And this is just a demonstration of what the Outward Bound stands for, what it can actually do to people. It can give people the confidence to be able to make this form of abseil.”

According to reports, Prince Andrew collected £290,000 ($460,000 US) in sponsorships, for making his way down the 785-foot building.

“I have to say, now I can look back up,” jokingly said Prince Andrew. “It’s a hell of a long way.”

Andrew, who is a Royal Navy Commander, served in the Falklands War in 1982. More importantly, he is the second son of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duke of York took over as the Chairman of Trustees for The Outward Bound Trust in 1999.
