Pope Benedict XVI to resign at end of month: Vatican
The Vatican says that Pope Benedict XVI will resign on Feb. 28, according to Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi. A reason for the resignation was not given, according to a CNN report.
The resignation, which will be effective at 1900 GMT on Feb. 28, means that a new pope should be in place by Easter, the Vatican spokesman said.
Benedict is the 265th pope.
