Planning An Affordable Office Party People Will Want to Attend

An office party might not sound like everyone’s idea of fun. There are generally two kinds of parties. The ones that are cheaply done and everyone dreads attending, but they go because they feel obligated, and then there are those parties that are over-the-top, and everyone has a great time, but they end up costing a fortune.

If you’re in charge of planning parties for your office, how can you find that balance between having an event that everyone enjoys and wants to be at, that also doesn’t break the budget you’re given to work with?

Try To Get Out of the Office

When you’re planning an office party, it’s often held at the office. If you’re working with a budget, you might not think it’s possible to have it somewhere else, but you might want to call around to local restaurants and venues and see what kind of deals you can work out. It may be less expensive than you think, and it can help everyone loosen up a bit more if they can get out of the office to celebrate. If you can get out of the office, try to decorate the space where you’ll be having the party to make it as un-work-like as possible.

Ask For Input

When party planners are thinking about a workplace soiree, they can often forget to ask the most important people for their input: the guests. Before you really get into the planning of a work party, try to ask coworkers what they would find enjoyable. This can save you a lot of time and indecision during the planning process. If you’re asking colleagues what they would enjoy, it’s going to let them know their employer cares about their opinions, and that in and of itself can help them have more fun.

Decide On A Quirky Theme

If you want everyone to loosen up and have a good time, choose a theme that’s fun and is versatile in terms of decorations, food, and activities. One idea would be a Mexican theme, which makes food pretty simple, as well as decorating. It’s also fun and is an inherently energetic concept, which may help your colleagues relax and enjoy the party more. Try to choose a theme that’s going to let employees easily move out of their straight-laced work mode, and into a more party-conducive mood.

Include an Activity

Work parties can be difficult regarding getting people to loosen up, particularly if you’re part of a large office where not everyone is familiar with everyone else. Try to come up with a silly but slightly competitive game or activity that will serve as an ice breaker. If you have the budget and can find a low-cost entertainer, you might want to consider that as well. Just remember, you don’t want to stir up controversy at a work event, or offend anyone so make sure you read online reviews before booking anyone. If you’re nervous about an entertainer, such as a comedian, you may be able to find a speaker that can inspire employees.
