Photography professor Wafaa Bilal embeds camera in head

A US photography professor has got a ‘third eye’ to capture moments happening behind him. He has implanted a digital camera in the back of his head in the name art. Iraq-born Wafaa Bilal, a professor at New York University, has implanted a 2-inch diameter camera with less than an inch thickness to capture a photograph per minute for one year. He intends to activate camera on December 15, The Wall Street Journal reported.

It is for his project The 3rd I, which is commissioned for December 30 opening of the Mathab: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar. Bilal plans to broadcast a live stream of images from the camera on the inaugural day.

“The 3rd I builds on my previous body of work in combining various art forms, such as performance art, digital art, body art and photography, into a unique conceptual piece expressed in my own unique artistic language,” Bilal said in a statement.

The implantation procedure was performed in US, the Journal reported, noting that Bilal did not want to reveal anymore details until he recovered.
