Philippines: Four Saint Benedict College nursing students among dead in 3-vehicle collision in North Cotabato

A tragic, three vehicle collision in North Cotabato province on the southern island of Mindanao has left at least seven people dead and 17 injured, according to a SunStar Davao report today.

The accident involving a military truck, a jeepney and a van occurred at a curve on the national highway in Barangay Takepan, Pikit, North Cotabato around noon on Friday.

According to reports, The van, traveling at excessive speeds, had veered along the opposite lane and slammed into the Lawin jeepney. The van then crashed into M35 army truck.

Chief Inspector Jordine Maribojo of Pikit police said the impact of the colliding vehicles split the van into two.

Among the dead include four Saint Benedict College nursing students who were traveling to Cruzado Hospital in Pikit town for their internship.

The four students killed are Sittie Haymiyah Ibrahim, Umayrah Abutazil, Potri Sauya Mansa, and Judy Uy. In addition, the other fatalities were identified as Mohamed Samil Ali, who was driving the van,  Solayman Macaindeg and Musa Bacuna.

The injured, according to the SunStar report are as follows:

Tintin Castillon, 30; Randy Corpuz, 33; Marvin Latoza, 20; Elmer Madsay; Niafa Esmael; Norhana Minang; Marima Landasan, 26; Chanads Manampan, 16; Sadam Lumanda, 21; Demalungan Ebrahim, 20; Minang Norhaina, 18; Madjan Esmael; Ceferino Villanueva; Norah Piang Paidumama; Nairali Datakkah Tungkay; Batawan Wanita, 48; Nagnal Naphy, 28; Atang Lolita; Alma Rose Maciado, 25; and Michael Barrientos of the Special Forces of the Philippine Army.

The accident is being called the worst road accident in the province in a year.
