Philippines: Death toll from Typhoon Glenda up to 86, Typhoon Henry currently east of Samar

Although Typhoon Rammasun (Glenda) is long gone, the death toll continues to mount in the Philippines. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced Saturday that the death toll has increased by nine, bringing it to 86.

232 people were reported injured due to Glenda while the typhoon totally destroyed 39,808 houses and partially damaged 117,674 houses in different parts of Luzon and the Visayas affecting more than 1.6 million people.

There are still some areas without power.

On the heels of Glenda comes Typhoon Henry (Matmo), which according to a 4 pm Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) report, the eye of the storm was located based on all available data at 530 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.4°n, 130.9°e) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move northwest at 19 kph.

Fortunately, PAGASA reports that Henry should not make landfall in the Philippines, instead  it appears headed between Taiwan and Southern Japan. By Monday morning, Henry is expected to be at 700 km East of Calayan.
