Penny, missing dog in Washington State, found in Pennsylvania
The dog named Penny has quite the story after being found in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, quite a distance from her home in Washington State.
Penny’s family said she was picked up in Tacoma by a truck driver who thought she was a stray. She wound up traveling to Des Moines. From there she made her way to western Pennsylvania, ending up at the Banfield Pet Hospital in Ross Township — though it is unclear how.
A microchip determined where Penny came from.
“To think that a dog traveled 2,000 plus miles to be found again with a microchip,” said Krista Novak, who heard about the missing canine through a Facebook post.
Kendra and Colt Brown received a call from the Pittsburgh animal doctor and can’t believe their pooch went on a 2,400 mile journey.
“We’re just really excited that we will be getting her back. It has been a huge blessing,” Kendra said. “The people who have been willing to help after seeing the Facebook page and everything — I mean, it’s just been an overwhelming amount of support.”
“I’m so happy that I could help her out. I would hope someone would do the same for me if I were in the same instance, you know, the same circumstance,” said Novak.
“It’s pretty crazy. When she went missing, we thought she ran off and we were never going to see her again. We’re just happy knowing she’s alive,” said Kendra. “I’m sure if she could talk, she’d have quite a few adventures to talk about.”
