Patty Jenkins signs on to direct ‘Wonder Woman

Just days after Wonder Woman lost director Michelle MacLaren, Warner Bros confirms that Patty Jenkins will now direct the superhero film starring Gal Gadot as the DC Comics icon.

THR reported Jenkins has closed her deal to direct Wonder Woman and the studio will stick to their planned timetable.

“Warners moved at lightning speed to sew up another director after parting ways Monday with Michelle MacLaren, the experienced TV director and producer who was to have made her feature directorial debut with Wonder Woman. Creative differences were cited as the reasons for MacLaren’s departure,” their coverage noted.

While Wonder Woman is still a couple of years away, the reshuffling could have caused all sorts of delays and issues.

MacLaren had signed on to helm the project last fall, after Warner Bros. made it known they were looking for a woman to helm their first female-led superhero movie. However, she dropped out earlier this week citing “creative differences.”

Jenkins had a similar experience over at rival studio Marvel. She was once set to direct Marvel Studios’ Thor 2, but exited over “creative differences.” She was later replaced by Alan Taylor. Had she stayed on, she would have been the MCU franchise’s first female director; now she will be the DCU’s.

Wonder Woman will be introduced in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016 and then appear on November 10, 2017 in Justice League Part One.

Wonder Woman has a June 23, 2017 release date, and is being produced by Charles Roven (The Dark Night Rises), Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder (Man of Steel).
