Patel Conservatory’s ‘Clown Boot Camp’ set for February 13
Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa Florida will be hosting the “Clown Boot Camp” on Saturday, Feb. 13, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Students in grades three to eight will learn clown techniques, such as basic slapstick comedy, proper makeup application and creating a gag. They will also learn to juggle three objects and will get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be a professional clown.
The workshop will be taught by: Matthew Belopavlovich, a Patel Conservatory instructor and former Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus clown.
Belopavlovich toured for two years as a clown and served as pre-show host for the circus. His original work was featured at the New York Clown Festival.
Also leading the workshop is Dustin Portillo, former Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus boss clown and Aga-Boom clown and Brandon Foster, who toured as a clown with Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus for six years.
