Oscar Isaac talks Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford in ‘Star Wars Episode VII’
While promoting his new film, The Two Faces of January, Oscar Issac spoke about his role in the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII. While Isaac obviously didn’t give away any spoilers, he did talk about working with stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.
“Yeah, I have [had interactions with them]. Both. They’re such funny people. Carrie is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he’s 150 percent back. It’s pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible. Everyone’s having a really good time,” the Inside Llewyn Davis star tells Entertainment Weekly.
It’s director JJ Abrams who gets the most praise as he talks about the massive scale of the film.
“J.J. sets that tone. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and it’s being done with a lot of heart. There’s nothing cynical about the way we’re doing this. Even the in way he’s shooting it—he’s shooting on film and actually building the sets, so you’ve got hundreds of Stormtroopers or whatever, and hundreds of extras and all the ships. You actually see it. It’s all real. Everyone can interact with the world.”
Being a self-professed fan Isaac talks about paying homage to the original trilogy.
“I’m constantly looking for a cheesy line to say to harken back to the old ones. No, what they’re trying to do and what’s really great is J.J.’s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energized. It’s not formal. They’re messy, energized people. We’ve all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy,” he says in the EW interview.
In addition to Fisher and Ford, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) all return, joined by Adam Driver (Girls), Isaac, Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time,Dredd), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set for release on December 18th 2015
