Ohio man mutilates genitals after eating magic mushrooms

A Columbus, Ohio man nearly killed himself after performing self mutilation as a result of drug use in a Michigan neighborhood, according to a Detroit Free Press report yesterday.

The unnamed 41-year-old was found naked and screaming at a Ypsilanti Township middle school by Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies.

Sheriff officials say the man was kneeling outside the school and bloody from the waist down, with parts of his genitals ripped off . Sgt. Geoff Fox of the sheriff’s department said the man was “close to death” when taken to a local hospital.

The report describes the scene at the school as a lot of yelling and screaming, as you could imagine. Little real communication between the man and law enforcement occurred at that point.

Later, the man disclosed to sheriff’s he “picked up hallucinogenic mushrooms earlier in the day”. Sheriff’s officials say the man has no history of mental illness or extensive drug use.

Blood tests have been ordered to ascertain any other potential drugs in the man’s system.
