Nicholas Rodas and Christopher Lanigan, two Florida high school students arrested for pot brownies
Two Wharton High School seniors were arrested for selling pot brownies to classmates.
Nicholas Rodas and Christopher Lanigan were charged Wednesday with bringing the marijuana-laden baked goods to Wharton High School.
“Each cookie and brownie was individually wrapped,” said Debbie Carter, a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. “That’s kind of unique. Usually we haven’t found any (marijuana) that is baked into an item.”
The Sheriff’s report revealed that the first student, Lanigan was found in possession of two individually wrapped brownies that tested positive for marijuana. And the second student, Rodas was found in possession of 5 individually wrapped cookies that each tested positive for marijuana.
The incidents occurred during normal school hours and it is unknown if the suspects sold any items prior to arrest.
“No one has admitted to buying any,” Carter said.
School district officials said the two didn’t appear to be hiding the fact the brownies and cookies were laced with marijuana.
“From talking to the principal, I don’t think these kids were trying to trick kids into doing drugs,” said Linda Cobbe, a spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County School District.
Lanigan and Rodas, who are both 17, have been automatically suspended for 10 days, Cobbe said.
“Students get arrested for possession of marijuana on a regular basis,” Cobbe said. “The unusual part is that it was baked into cookies and brownies.
“It’s unfortunate,” Cobbe said. “It’s unusual. It’s disappointing.”
