NFL back in the news: Cam Newton’s ‘sexist’ remarks to Jourdan Rodrigue cost him the Dannon endorsement, but she’s a racist
Just as the noise from the Boycott NFL movement and National Anthem kneeling seemed to quiet down, Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton put football back in the headlines with his “sexist” response to a female reporter. Now Dannon has cut ties with Newton, citing his behavior. The reporter has been forced to apologize for “racist” tweets made over the years as her account was trolled, more below.
“Devin Funchess has seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes. Does that give you a bit of an extra enjoyment to know you can trust people out there?” asked Jourdan Rodrigue, a female reporter for the Charlotte Observer.
“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes,” Newton chuckled.
“It’s funny,” Newton repeated before going on to answer Rodrigue’s question.

“I don’t think it’s “funny” to be a female and talk about routes. I think it’s my job,” Rodrigue tweeted following the end of the press conference.
Newton has since “expressed his regret” over the incident, according to a statement from Panthers spokesman, Steven Drummond.
“This afternoon, I did my job as an NFL beat writer and asked Cam Newton a question about one of his receivers.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy called Newton’s comments were “just plain wrong and disrespectful to the exceptional female reporters and all journalists who cover our league. They do not reflect the thinking of the league.”
Dannon was quick to dump the quarterback.
We’re disheartened by Cam Newton’s behavior, which we perceive as sexist. We shared our concerns with Cam & will no longer work with him.

So over the last few weeks, the NFL has angered and alienated their product from millions of Trump supporters, those who expect respect for the national anthem and now women.
Rodrigue surely loved being the victim, but learned how the Internet trolls work and Black Sports Online published proof of her “racist tweets” over the years: laughing at others’ racism and re-tweeted the n-word in reference to a white person.
In one case, she referred to a comedian as “the best. Racist jokes the whole drive home,” and in another she manually retweeted an account screaming in all caps, “the earth moves at 450+ mph, that’s 10 times triller than NASCAR Dale Earnharts a bitch [n-word].”
BSO also screen-captured a third tweet in which Rodrigue says her father is “being super racist.”
