New York woman, Ariana Edwards, rejects plea deal over murder of Michael Thomas, found in her apartment, decaying for weeks

A New York woman accused in a Binghamton murder and robbery on the city’s West Side rejected a plea offer Tuesday for near-maximum state prison time. Ariana Edwards is accused of murdering Michael C. Thomas, found two weeks after his August 22 death.

Edwards, 38, will now go to trial in Broome County Court, unless of course a new plea agreement is reached. This offer was to settle the case with a guilty plea in exchange for a sentence of 20 years to life in prison, according to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office.

Edwards and Bradley Miles have been charged with felony counts of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery of Thomas, 38, who was threatened with a knife by the duo. They stole property before killing the man, all details revealed in the indictment.

District Attorney Steve Cornwell has said authorities believe the incident was tied to drugs.

Thomas, a father of four, had lived in Binghamton for 15 years, according to his family members.

The plea offer that Edwards rejected Tuesday would have covered all charges, including the intimidation charge. She is being held in the Broome County jail.

On May 4, Miles, 31, rejected a plea deal of 22 years to life. He also remains in jail while awaiting further court proceedings.

The second-degree murder counts against Edwards and Miles carry a potential maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
