Police arrived at their home around 8:40 a.m. to find the couple dead in their Highland Falls home, which is near West Point. Police were responded to a report of gunshots.
Mario Vanzetta, 41, worked as an Air Marshal and authorities have confirmed he used his handgun to murder his wife Stephanie, also 41.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the bodies were removed from the house as police interviewed the neighbors. Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be performed.
Public records indicate that Stephanie Vanzetta filed for divorce on Sept. 28.
A pastor spoke with News 12, stating that Stephanie spoke about marital problems during a brief encounter at her place of work, a local salon.
The pastor says Vanzetta admitted there were problems in the couple’s marriage: “I know there was some tension…she really wasn’t able to talk about it.”
The couple had three children, who neighbors say were all under the age of 15. Neighbors told News 12 that Mario Vanzetta dropped the three children off at school Friday morning before the killing took place.
