New TV spot for After Earth, new photos as Will Smith, Jaden Smith describe the ‘perfect collision of art entertainment, education’ and questions
Summer movie fans can only rejoice as Will Smith has another big film, After Earth, which co-stars his son, Jaden. A new TV spot and photos are just the beginning for After Earth fans.
In a Google+ Hangout April 23 the duo talked about the “father-son” dynamics in the film and the theme of responsibility towards the planet.

“With this film it was such a perfect collision of art entertainment, education and a posing of fantastic questions,” Will Smith said during hangout. “As an artist, this film does exactly what I always dreamed to be able to do with entertain and to also be able to pose interesting questions.”
Discovery News detailed the comments made by both stars and the younger Smith echoed the sentiments of his father.
“I feel like I really saw some true beauty in the world after shooting in Costa Rica,” said Jaden Smith. “After that experience, it really showed me how important it is to save the world.”
The film also stars Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman.
After Earth opens on May 31st.
Here’s the official synopsis for After Earth:
A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
