New study: Hollywood to blame for increased gun sales, gun violence in PG-13 films which worse than R-rated movies

A new report published the research from pediatrics researchers, bolstered by data from Internet Movie Firearms Database, reveals that “gun violence in PG-13 films has more than tripled since 1985; in recent years, it has even exceeded the violence of R-rated films.”

Indiewire notes that “Even the most cursory read of this weekend’s big movie releases highlights the increasingly irrational divide between what the MPAA considers a PG-13 movie — as in, totally cool for the 13 and older set — and what is more likely to require some serious parental hand-holding.”

Moreover, the gun control advocates seemingly ignore their role in promotion leading to gun sales.

As the Economist writes about Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry and the Die Hard films: “Eastwood’s nod to his Smith & Wesson Model 29 is said to have bumped up sales of 44 Magnum revolvers in America and contributed to brand awareness more generally. The appearance of the Glock 7—a fictional model—in “Die Hard 2” (1990), has helped the gun manufacturer to great popularity and sales. By the end of that year, there were over 300,000 Glock pistols in use across America. Glock was able to strengthen its marketing efforts, open a third subsidiary in South America and begin production on new G22 and G23 models.”

The pediatric research’s conclusion: Our research found that violence in films has more than doubled since 1950, and that gun violence in PG-13 films has increased to the point where it recently exceeded the rate in R-rated films. The effects of exposure to gun violence in films should not be trivialized. Even if youth do not use guns, the current research suggests that because of the increasing popularity of PG-13–rated films, youth are exposed to considerable gun violence in movie scripts. The mere presence of guns in these films may increase the aggressive behavior of youth. (Emphasis added, the Dispatch.)

Hollywood loves to take money for the gun placement: “Lone Survivor received $250,000 from Beretta for a product placement deal…they replaced all existent handguns with their own .45s model; in reality, the SEALs would have carried Sig Sauer p226 and Kimber 1911s.”

Why would anyone expect anything different from Repressive hypocrits? They claim to hate guns but they love making enough money to have someone else carry guns for them so they don’t have to touuch the “nasty things” or have any responsibility if THEY should need protection.

Pure nonsense. People do not buy firearms because they saw a piece of fiction. LOL

“Hollywood will always play a part in the sale of firearms, whether the publicity is positive or not. As the old saying goes, ‘any publicity is good publicity.’ Gun manufacturers are well aware of this.” – Brian Graves, owner of Colorado-based BMK Arms Inc.

When asked about the “Die Hard” films: “After that, everyone wanted a Glock handgun. That movie literally made Glock in America; they weren’t popular before that. Hollywood can influence sales, and in this case the ‘Glock 7’ used in the film was fictional. It doesn’t even exist.” — Wesley Morris, owner of the California-based gun store Ten Percent Firearms
