New Jersey boy, Brandon Holt, age 6, shot and killed by 4-year-old neighbor
Six-year-old Brandon Holt has died from injuries sustained when his 4-year-old neighbor shot him in the head with a 22-caliber rifle Monday evening as they played between their New Jersey homes, reports the Asbury Park Press.
Brandon Holt, age 6, was shot and killed by his 4-year-old playmate.
The two boys were playing outside in Holt’s side yard when the unnamed 4-year-old left to retrieve the 22-caliber rifle from inside of his home.
He fired one shot into Holt’s head while he sat in a golf cart right beside his garage.
Holt was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he was listed in serious, but stable condition. But the young boy eventually took a turn for the worse.
Whether or not the four-year-old actually pulled the gun’s trigger or it accidentally discharged remains under investigation, police Chief Michael Mastronardy said.
Authorities did not release the four-year-old’s identity Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, it’s a tragic accident,” Mastronardy said. “Right now, what we want to concentrate (on) is working with the family and helping them through this difficult time.”
