New Jersey 7-year-old Isabelle LaPeruta calls 911 after touching the Elf on the Shelf

A New Jersey girl called 911 after she touched her elf on the shelf.

Isabelle LaPeruta, age 7, of Old Bridge was worried because, according to the popular children’s book, the magic of Christmas goes away if the elf is touched.

WNBC-TV reports the girl told the 911 operator not to come to her house because she was trying to call her dad. Police showed up, as required with all 911 calls and the officer found the girl – crying.

The girl then tried to send the officer away, but the commotion woke her mother from a nap.

After throwing a ball, the elf fell on the floor and Isabelle “panicked” and picked up the toy, presumably zapping away all of the Christmas magic.

From the recording of the 911 call:

“Hello?” the 911 operator says.

“It’s Isabella,” the girl says.

“Hi. Hi, Isabella. Why are you calling 911?” the operator asks.

The girl panics: “Don’t come to my house!” she shouts. “Don’t!”

She goes on to explain, “I was trying to call my dad” to tell him about the accident.

The operator responds, “You can just say you made a mistake.”

“She was hysterical crying, she was panicking,” said Lynanne LaPeruta later explained.

The officer radioed headquarters: “Isabella apologized. She touched the Elf on a Shelf. She won’t call 911 again.”

“To her, it was an emergency when she touched the elf, and she’s going to ruin Christmas, so that was her emergency,” said Old Bridge Police Lt. Joseph Mandola. “In her mind, she did right, and it was fine with us.”
