Nebraska State Patrol confirmed that body found in a creek off the Interstate was missing man Shawn McWilliams
Nebraska State Patrol have identified the body found in a vehicle Thursday morning as Shawn McWilliams of Omaha.
Williams, 50, was discovered dead inside a truck after police responded to a call by the employee of a company contracted to mow in the area. The blue 2007 Ford Sport Trac was found in a creek underneath a bridge on Interstate 80 near mile marker 422.
Cody Thomas, spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol said the vehicle was not visible to those in passing traffic.
McWilliams was first reported missing back in June, last heard from about 4 a.m. June 19 when he told his longtime girlfriend, Deb Warneke, that he was going for a drive.
Warneke told police that he often “went for a drive,” but was concerned that McWilliams had Type-1 diabetes and didn’t have his medication with him when he left.
Warneke filed a missing person report and McWilliams’ last known location based on a cellphone ping was near 72nd and Jones Streets, she has said after speaking with officials at the time.
“I’m trying to hold out hope that he’s somewhere still alive and that we’re going to find him in time, but it’s getting to the point where I’m starting to lose hope,” Warneke said at the time.
Officials said no criminal activity is suspected, but police did confirm that they consider their investigations as ongoing.
“Thank you to everyone for all of the prayers and looking for Shawn,” Warneke posted on Facebook Thursday. “They found him and his truck in a creek along I80 today. He is in a better place now.”
