NBC approves ‘Hannibal’ season 3, cancels ‘Revolution’ and ‘Community’

tracy-spiridakos-revolution photoRevolution season 3 and Community season 5 are a no go at NBC as the network added an order for a third season of Hannibal.

Deadline reported Friday that the “network has given a third-season pickup to the series, from Bryan Fuller and Gaumont International Television. Based on Thomas Harris’ characters, the gory psychological thriller focuses on the budding relationship between FBI special investigator Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen).”

The pick up was earlier this season, so it was great news for the creators and network. “The series is done under a different model, which allows the producers to make it for a $750,000 license fee from NBC, a fraction of what a high-end drama like that goes for,” the article noted.

Creator Dan Harmon returned for the fifth season of Community and the conclusion seemed fitting. “NBC’s comedy woes began last fall, the end game plan was shelved. Community didn’t hit it out of the park in Season 5 but it didn’t blow it either, staying very close to the Season 4 average, which had earned a renewal,” Deadline stated.

Fans of Revolution got bad news, “The JJ Abrams/Eric Kripke post-apocalyptic drama is long ways from where it was last season when it was riding high with a lot of buzz and solid ratings behind The Voice on Mondays. The heavily serialized series started to lose steam after the long hiatus between the fall and spring half-season,” the news stated, with more here.

The season two finale of Hannibal is set for May 23, 2014.

WHAT THE HELL. Networks always cancel the good shows and keep the regular boring shows for idiots. I’m am so pissed off. Why do sci-fi shows always get the short end of the stick? I loved Revolution (one of the few shows I looked forward to watching) and am so sad that they cut it. I feel like I’m almost as angry as when Firefly got cut. Syfy channel needs to pick up Revolution.

  2. Ron says:

Bunch of morons at NBC. No wonder their network is last in the Nielson ratings. How can you cancel Revolution? It is fresh and exciting. You need to fire everyone and listen to the fans. Idiots!

  3. Chris says:

Bad choice. Cable channels will lose a lot more viewers. Netflix will take over tv.

Us network bosses are jokes how can they leave shows unfinished there blatant disregard for viewers is astounding. Surely if a series is unfinished then at least commission a mini-series to give the viewer some kind of closure and show they do care about there viewers.

  6. Jonas says:

Very disappointing that they are choosing to cancel Revolution. I hate to see a good series unfinished.

WTF NBC Thats BS to leave a Show cancled with a cliffhanger like that

      • M.P. says:

I know! It’s ridiculous because at least if NBC told the show’s producers earlier, they might have tried to wrap up the storyline. It’s a real shame that such a good show is getting cancelled.
