NARAL targets GOP candidates on abortion by listing quotes

With 7 in 10 Americans supporting abortion rights, the extreme rhetoric and actions coming from the 2016 GOP field on rolling back women’s reproductive freedom is only hurting them with general election voters. While we expect leading candidates to continue to race each other to the bottom with increasingly outlandish statements, here is a list of gems to remind you of each candidate headed into tomorrow’s debate:

Donald Trump: “I’m talking about death. If the mother will die and we’re going to know that. The problem with [saying health] is, what, you have a cold and you’re having an abortion?”

Jeb Bush: “I’m not sure we need half a billion dollars for women’s health issues.”

Marco Rubio: “The science is settled, it’s not even a consensus, it is a unanimity that human life begins at conception.”

Scott Walker: “It’s a false choice. There is always a better option out there. I’ve said for years, medically there’s always a better choice than choosing between the life of an unborn baby and the life of the mother. Medically that’s just a nonissue.”

Ben Carson: “It’s interesting that we sit around and call other ancient civilizations ‘heathen’ because of human sacrifice, but aren’t we actually guilty of the same thing?”

Ted Cruz: “Today marks the dark anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that overturned a Texas law that prohibited abortion on demand.”

Mike Huckabee: “If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it.”

John Kasich: “Life is a gift from God and one way that we express our ongoing gratitude for it is by respecting it. This [20 week ban] bill does that in a very fundamental way and I’m proud to have signed it into law.”

Rand Paul: “I would support legislation, a Sanctity of Life Amendment, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. This legislation would define life at conception in law, as a scientific statement.”

Carly Fiorina: “If Congress does not have the courage to defund Planned Parenthood, I’ll tell you what a President Fiorina [would do], when we go to zero based budget I simply won’t supply the money to fund Planned Parenthood.”

Chris Christie: “When [the Democratic legislature] send me Planned Parenthood funding year after year after year and I am the first governor to veto Planned Parenthood funding out of the budget. There is no room for compromise there.”
