Nancy Pelosi resorts to fearmongering over GOP winning Senate, ‘Fear is a motivator’
It will be the end of “cCivilization as we know it” if Republicans take control of the Senate says Nancy Pelosi while looking ahead to the 2014 elections.
“It looks like, actually, Republicans are going to win the Senate [in the upcoming midterm elections],” Bill Maher said to Pelosi on “Real Time” Friday night, asking her, “What would change? Why do I care if [Democrats] lose the Senate?”
Pelosi’s response: ”Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate.”
The audience groaned and laughed promping a laugh from Pelosi who then said: “Yeah, no, it’s really important.”
Later on, Pelosi said that the American people “are very wise” right after she noted that half of the American public doesn’t even know that midterm elections are coming up in November.
She predicted Democrats could pick up wins just as long as they got enough of their supporters to show up to vote.
Maher pointed out to the House Minority Leader that voter turnout will most likely lean to the right saying, “Nobody comes out to vote to say ‘thank you.’ The people who get health care now – they’re the people least likely to vote. The people who come out to vote are the angry people,”
“That’s true,” Pelosi responded. “Fear is a motivator, and we are not fear-mongers. The Democrats are messengers of hope, and that’s what we will continue to be.”
Democrats currently hold the Senate with 53 seats and two liberal leaning independents, while Republicans have 45 seats.
