Music Training Center May Provide Creative and Social Benefits for Kids

If you are a parent who believes there are not enough creative choices for your children in their school’s curriculum, you are not alone. A recent survey conducted by the National Association of Music Merchants noted that a large percentage of parents support classes that inspire and nurture the creative side, particularly music instruction. Because not all schools can afford the facilities and equipment, some children never get the opportunity to expand their musical or vocal talents. However, Music Training Center, a music instruction school that serves the Philadelphia area, is trying to change that by offering students of all ages the chance to discover music, socialize with peers who have the same interests, and raise awareness about the importance of music education.

Why Music School?

It seems that when schools encounter budget problems, music classes are the first to be cut from the curriculum. In many cases, they fall to sports programs such as football and basketball. However, schools that choose this route are doing their students a disservice, cutting programs that not only grow self-esteem, foster self-discipline, and sharpen focus, music programs also have the potential to improve student’s overall grades. In fact, recent studies indicate that students who regularly participate in music classes score better on tests and have more ability to focus during class time. It is hard to understand why schools would choose to cut classes that have proven academic advantages, but it happens all over the nation.Music school also has the capacity to improve your child’s social interactions. For example, at The Music Training Center, students participate in a variety of social activities such as karaoke night and rock band and A Capella camp. The more your child has the chance to interact with other music students, the wider his or her social circle will become. This can build the foundation for excellent social habits that last a lifetime.

Children Are Never Too Young to Start Learning

Music Training Center locations all offer music for young children, from ages zero to age four. While you may think that children this young cannot benefit from musical instruction at this age, they are actually very receptive and can be taught about basic rhythms. Consider the nursery rhymes that you have sung to your children from the time they were infants and why these songs have endured from generation to generation. Exposing children to classes that take the basic teaching concepts of nursery rhymes and use them as building blocks to a wider understanding of music may give them a head start in later classes.

Toddlers and children who are ready to attend pre-K may also learn vital social skills from music lessons. Children this age typically learn in a group setting with two or more teachers, and active participation between teachers, parents, and the children may give them a head start when they encounter their full-time learning environment later on. Some social skills that may be enhanced with musical instruction include improved listening, the ability to work in a group, and improved verbal skills.

The Effects of Musical Instruction Can Be Far-Reaching

If you are concerned about tuition and lesson costs at Music Training Center, you may want to consider them an investment in your child’s future. Studies performed over the past several decades show that what a child learns during musical instruction may have a positive impact during later years. These studies indicate that children who participate in musical theater, singing groups, and bands are less likely to commit crimes or participate in acts of vandalism. This may be due to instruction and the opportunity to perform nurturing a better sense of self-esteem, which makes children less vulnerable to peer pressure.Another study performed by a Northwest University neuroscientist showed that adults who had anywhere from five to fourteen years of music lessons have the ability to process sounds at a faster rate than those who did not, even if they had not participated in lessons since their childhood. According to the study, this results in better and more comprehensive listening skills, which may be beneficial in a number of social and professional situations.

Instruction May Lay the Foundation for a Satisfying Career

While not every child who participates in musical instruction goes on to be the next Michael Jackson or Nathan Lane, children who have the opportunity to explore singing, playing an instrument, or performing on the stage may decide to make them a lifelong endeavor. Others may decide to participate in musical philanthropy, such as Don Gayhardt, the chairman of Musical Training Center, who has for a number of years.  Not only is he a regular contributor to the Philadelphia Orchestra, he invested in Music Training Center, giving children in PA and NJ the chance to discover music.
Learn more about Don Gayhardt and how a love of music might lead to great opportunities for others. With music programs in schools being cut all over the country, musical instruction schools are becoming a haven for kids who want to explore the world of music, theater, and singing. The benefits of music classes, both personal and academic, have been repeatedly proven in scientific and social studies and may provide children with skills and benefits that can last a lifetime.
