More details on Raghunandam Yandamuri, murderer of child and grandmother

While the motive appears to be money, Raghunandam Yandamuri’s murder of Saanvi Venna and her grandmother still leaves many scratching their heads. The $50,000 ransom requests (10 copies of the note was thrown all over the apartment) are rumored to possible gambling debts.

Raghu Yandamuri Ransom note

Yandamuri filed for bankruptcy in California back in April of this year, the same time he married his wife Komali Alokam. The bankruptcy documents indicate Yandamuri used to work for Sarayu Consultants Inc, an Illinois-based software consulting firm.

On the Friday before the killing, Yandamuri spoke by telephone with his friend of eight years, Chandu Tummala, with whom he had attended undergraduate school in India. Tummala now lives in San Jose. “He asked me for $1,000,” Tummala said in a telephone interview. “He said his wife was pregnant and that he wanted to bring his mother-in-law and father-in-law to the United States to help them.”

Tummala said he made an online transfer of the requested loan to Yandamuri’s bank account. Before moving to King of Prussia in September, Yandamuri had shared an apartment in San Jose with Rashivar Karnati, 25, a graduate student at San Jose State University. They were introduced by Tummala. When they were roommates, said Karnati, he was a student and Yandamuri worked as a software specialist for Ebay.

Here are the details as the murder unfolded when Raghu confessed to police:

he told that he planned to kidnap Saanvi and hold her for ransom, he planned his trip to venkata;s apartment on Monday Morning, October 22, 2012 , he targetted them because he thought since both Venkataand Lata were working professionls .he used his work computer at this work place to prepare the ransom note demanding money and it’s printed copies. he stated it wa his intention to take Saanvi and hide her until her parents paid the ransom.

Raghu arrived at Venna’s apartment at about 110:00AM on monday morning and armed himself with a 4 Inch kitched knife from his own apartment and brought 10 copies of ransom notes. and he knocked at Venna’s apartment door which was answered by Satyavathi, once the door was opened she was threatened , Satyavathi retreated into the kitched area of the apartment, while Raghu picked the baby sitting on the couch in his arms.  As Raghu held the baby in his left arm he said Satyavathi came at him while in the kitchen, during this time Raghu remained armed, holding his knife in this hand, According to Raghu, Saanvi fell from his grip and he fell on top of her, He claimed that as he was falling to the ground, Satyavathi came towards him and that was the moment when she was cut in the throat.

Raghu Said Saanvi began to cry ans he stuffed a handkerchief in her mouth to make her stop crying and placed a bath towel around her head to hold the handkerchief in place. He then put her inside a blue suitcase he found in the bedroom, he took jewellery he found in the apartment and placed that in the suitcase with Saanvi, he then left the Apartment and he then abondoned Saanvi’s body hidden in the steam room, of the mens bathroom, of the gymnasium located inside marquis Apartment Building.
