‘Moon Knight’ ‘Ms Marvel’ ‘She-Hulk’ TV Series announced for Disney+

Big news from D23 was the new lineup of Disney+ Marvel shows: Ms Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk.

MOON KNIGHT

On the D23 stage, Kevin Feige confirmed that a Moon Knight TV show is on the way, calling it an “action adventure series” about a mercenary left for dead in the desert.

Moon Knight (aka Marc Spector) is a character who has been referred to as Marvel’s own version of Batman. The comic book series focuses on a mentally disturbed mercenary turned superhero with dissociative identity disorder who may or may not communicate with a lunar god that gives him superhuman strength under the light of the moon.

Slash Film notes in their coverage that “Warren Ellis’ run of Moon Knight comics would be perfect for a television series since it shifts between genres in each issues according to Marc Spector’s different personalities. That’s something that could easily be applied to the episodic format.

“The addition of Moon Knight to the MCU is interesting too, because the character has been a key part of New Avengers. On top of that, the character’s high tech gear was actually created by Hawkeye 5,000 years in the past when the West Coast Avengers traveled back to Ancient Egypt, gave weapons to priests there to protect themselves from threats, and that gear was handed down to Moon Knight. …”

SHE-HULK

Marvel Studios confirmed a She-Hulk Disney+ series is heading to the new streaming service, announced at the Disney+ panel at the D23 convention and while it’s still early days for the project, here’s what fans know.

The new show will follow Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, who is Bruce Banner’s cousin in the comics and receives an emergency blood transfusion that gives her a milder form of a transformation into her her own version of the Hulk.

Unlike the pre-Avengers: Endgame Bruce Banner, who struggled to control his temper, She-Hulk is able to basically live normally while having green skin and super strength.

In fact, she’s a lawyer, so this could end up be the MCU’s first legal drama. The most beloved She-Hulk comic also tend to be very funny, with Jennifer dabbling in superhuman law.

MS MARVEL

D23 also brought news that Captain Marvel will not be the only hero expanding the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adding the young superhero to the comic book world with the same namesake as the comic book company that created them. The teenage Muslim superhero known as Ms. Marvel (aka Kamala Khan) will be getting her own series on Disney+.

As for Ms. Marvel’s superpowers, she’s polymorphous like Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four, and she has the ability to heal as well. That makes her rather unique among the other superheroes, who don’t have the ability to stretch or shapeshift their bodies.

The series will be written by Bisha K. Ali, who is currently a staff writer on Hulu’s series reboot of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and the comedian will also be acting as showrunner.
