Yes, this is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome. This is what happens when people fawn over your every Tweet and Instagram photo. This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word “no,” made you change your clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance.

If you ever even consider doing something like that, I promise you that I will run up and twerk so you will see how ridiculous twerking looks. I will duct tape your mouth shut so your tongue doesn’t hangout like an overheated hound dog. I will smack any male whom you decide to smash against his pelvis – after I first knock you on your butt for forgetting how a lady acts in public.

Why would I do that? Because I love you and I want you to respect yourself. Miley Cyrus is not edgy or cool or sexy. She’s a desperate girl screaming for attention: Notice me. Tell me I’m pretty. See how hot I am. I know all the guys want me. All the girls want to be me.

You probably know girls who will emulate this behavior at the next school dance. Don’t do it with them. You are far too valuable to sell yourself so cheaply. Walk away. Let the boys gawk and know in your heart that they see only a body that can be used for their pleasure and then forgotten.

I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt sad because I haven’t gushed over everything you’ve done. My role is to praise when praise is due, but also to offer constructive criticism and correction when it is needed as well. I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt demoralized because your Instagram following isn’t in the thousands, and I’m sorry those “selfies” can never capture how amazingly beautiful you truly are. I’m sorry if you’ve ever wished you had a friend instead of a mom, and I promise you that I will probably get worse when you hit high school.

Dear daughter, I am going to fight or die trying to keep you from becoming like the Miley Cyruses of the world.

You can thank me later.

  1. Miley! says:

I’m wondering when Ashton Kutcher is going to pop out of this “article” claiming we have all been “Punked” . Miley has grown up, she is NO LONGER being censored by Disney or any other person or other “family Values” If she as an ADULT FEMALE, chooses to twerk, strip tease etc, that is her business, if all the “Family Value” people don’t like it, CHANGE THE CHANNEL…. Or actually raise your children without using a Disney CHARACTER Miley Cyrus PLAYED. Miley is NOT Hanna Montana etc. Every “Disney” actor that stayed within Disney rules as an adult are long forgotten…. Those like Miley, which refuse to live by other peoples standards are the ones that are entertainers pass age 21. Just like Anne Hathaway a Disney child actress, well until she ripped her shirt off in the movie “Brokeback Mountain” there went the Disney contract, look at her now…. A wonderful actress not being censored by other peoples “rules”…. Any other parents craving the attention by writing a “letter” online, think twice, the entertainer that you plan to ridicule, will be more important long after your 15 seconds of “fame” is forgotten, the character of a “family values” parent you plan to play to the media is OLD and Boring….

  2. Ingrid says:

Celebrities never asked to be role models. They are role models to kids because kids have irresponsible parents that are too lazy to do any parenting, allow the kids to watch stupid reality shows on TV and follow celebrities instead of doing something productive and constructive. Now if this mom had step up and taught her daughter the right from wrong at a young age, she wouldn’t have to write this letter to her daughter.
Miley is in her 20s, having some fun, that does NOT mean she does not respect her body. If anything, she is far from most hollywood celebrities such as Taylor Swift, who acts completely innocent but in reality, sleeps with 10 different guys a week and switches boyfriend like she switches underwear, I don’t even want to go into the fact that she dates out literally twice her age, she is what I call a bad role model. Miley may act and dance provocatively, but she is in a committed relationship for years. This mother, IMO, need to open her eyes!

  3. Alan says:

The author knows enough about her to know that she obviously doesn’t have the lady like values that she wants to instill in her daughter. We all judge people by their actions. As we should.

  4. Sunny says:

This lady is assuming that she knows how Miley was raised. Does she not know that you can raise your child right, be the perfect parent (if there’s such a person), and still have your child make terrible mistakes or behave unlike the person you raised them to be? I pray to God that her daughter doesn’t turn out like the person she thinks Miley is. And if I had one thing to say to Miley, it would be, “Miley, if you are going to be sticking your tongue so much, please make sure you’ve brushed it clean.”
I agree that there is a correct way that we must up-bring our children, but she should not..especially publicly..put DOWN a child to UP-bring hers. I believe in what people call Karma which I believe is God’s judgement..she talks like that about someone elses child and she risks her child turning out the same way. Teach your child, chastise, advice, but do not judge someone elses parenting and child.
What was she doing watching Mtv to begin with?? Even I know what to expect to see in any of its shows and events. Shame on HER for allowing her child..even in her company..to watch such things.

  5. Carol says:

I don’t feel the author knows Miley’s parents enough to blame their parenting for her performance. Miley is an adult now and that was her decision. We hope that as parents they values we have tried to instill in our children will follow them into adulthood. All we can do is hope there is no guarantee that they will. Miley is young and I hope she has learned that her VMA performance is not what the public wants from her. I don’t believe this one performance will define her career and it shouldn’t. We have to allow our children to make their mistakes and learn from them…its part of growing up.

    • Crystal says:

Well obviously if her father doesn’t see a problem in what she is doing than she most likely wasn’t raised right. My daughter was bought up to value herself and to ever act or dress like a cheap stripper and guess what. She does value herself and does not dress like or act like a cheap stripper. Miley Cyrus is nasty and I don’t care how old my daughter is if she ever acted like that anywhere I would remind her of where she came from. So Billy Ray when are you gonna step up and be a dad? Maybe next time when she’s posing nude?
