‘Moana’ trailer previews Polynesian culture with Auli’I Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson

Moana-Final-Poster-for-Disneys-WallpapersDisney UK has dropped the first teaser for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ South Pacific adventure, Moana. The Little Mermaid team of Ron Clements and John Musker deliver a new story of self-discovery with Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Auli’I Cravalho voicing the two main characters.

Cravalho voices the eponymous 16-year-old navigator, with Johnson as Maui, a half-god, half-mortal, all-awesome character. Maui wields a fishhook with magical powers — he tells us all about it in the video below.

An ode to Polynesian culture set 2,000 years ago, the plot follows Moana, a spirited girl who has been born to the sea. When she sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest, she encounters the once-mighty Maui. Together, they embark on an action-packed voyage, and encounter impossible odds.
