Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, two different views on the ‘fiscal cliff vote’ from Kentucky
The Bluegrass State of Kentucky saw their two Senators leave the fiscal cliff vote with different points of view on the subject, and hence, different votes in the wee hours Tuesday morning.
The senior Senator, Republican and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is considered instrumental in getting the deal passed with a vote of 89-8, he along with long time comrade and current Vice-President, Joe Biden are getting lots of the credit.
In fact, veteran Democratic political strategist, Peter Fenn went as far as to say, “Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell “Saved” America from Fiscal Cliff”, in a blog post today.
After the vote, Sen. McConnell said the following about the vote, “The President wanted tax increases, but thanks to this imperfect agreement, 99% of my constituents won’t be hit by those hikes.
So it took an imperfect solution to prevent our constituents from very real financial pain. But in my view, it was worth the effort.”
“Now it’s time to get serious about reducing Washington’s out-of-control spending. That’s a debate the American people want. It’s the debate we’ll have next. And it’s a debate Republicans are ready for.”
However, the junior Senator, one of eight Senators who voted “Nay”, Republican Rand Paul saw the fiscal cliff deal a little differently.
