Missouri Senate Race: Josh Hawley leads Claire McCaskill in new poll, Kavanaugh’s hearing impacting the race
While the nation focuses on the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, the midterm draws near and one heated race is in Missouri where Sen. Claire McCaskill now finds herself behind her opponent, Republican Josh Hawley.
A new poll released by The Missouri Scout on Saturday shows Hawley will a slight 2 point lead, 48-46. The TRF MO poll earlier in the month showed similar numbers, with Hawley up 3%: 47-44.

Claire McCaskill
Speaking of the Kavanaugh hearings: McCaskill could be finding herself on the wrong side of this debate.
One question: Has the Supreme Court confirmation process for Brett Kavanaugh made you more likely to vote for Claire McCaskill or
less likely to vote for Claire McCaskill, or made no difference?
Females 47-42% less likely, Males 50-41% less likely.
Among Non-Partisan respondents, 46 percent said the confirmation process made them less likely to vote for McCaskill, while 39 percent said it made them more likely.
McCaskill announced her opposition to Kavanaugh on September 19.
It’s clear that the Democrat won’t support Trump’s pick and wants SCOTUS packed with liberal judges.
In a speech to a group of supporters at a campaign office on June 29, McCaskill said a “feeling of helplessness” came upon her when she heard the news two days earlier that Kennedy was retiring, saying it “felt like a death in the family.”
“I felt physically ill, two days ago, when I looked at the TV, and I saw that Kennedy had retired,” McCaskill said in comments, which were posted to Facebook by a supporter. “It really felt like a death in the family. And a feeling of helplessness came over me.”

McCaskill also voted against Justice Neil Gorsuch last year.
Hawley said on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Wednesday that “people are very, very upset by what they see as an ambush” on Kavanaugh by Democrats after the allegations were raised against him just two weeks before his likely confirmation vote. Hawley has repeatedly hammered McCaskill for opposing Republican nominees and supporting the Supreme Court picks of President Barack Obama and touted his support for Kavanaugh often.
“Nobody is surprised. Claire McCaskill is now 0 for 6 on Supreme Court nominees since she started running for the Senate 12 long years ago,” Hawley said in a statement. “She has sided with Chuck Schumer every single time — for liberals and against Missouri.“
