‘Mission Impossible Rogue Nation’ trailer reveals details, Alec Baldwin, tons of aciton

Tom Cruise tries to raise the bar for the Mission Impossible franchise and the new trailer reveals details about the “Rogue Nation” and the adversaries in the upcoming film. The underwater scene, the first one in the teaser, required incredible training for the famous actor.

Cruise talked to USA Today about the scene and he said that “It’s something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to create a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We’re underwater and we’re doing breath-holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. So I was doing all my training with the other stuff (on-set). It was very taxing stuff.”

From hanging off hanging off one of the tallest buildings in the world (Ghost Protocol) to now being strapped to the side of an airplane in flight in Rogue Nation, Cruise appears to enjoying pushing the envelope.

The world record for holding your breath underwater is around 22 minutes. That makes Cruise’s 6 minute hold seem totally feasible. He worked with a performance underwater trainer named Kirk Krack.

Alec Baldwin joins the franchise, betraying the IMF team from the trailer leaving Ethan Hunt (Cruise) to scramble his friends to counter the new global threat.

Simon Pegg returns with Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames from the previous films, joined by Rebecca Ferguson, America Olivo and Sean Harris as the film’s bad guy.

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation arrives in theaters on July 31.
