Missing Rhode Island man Kenneth Stedman identified as body found in Spectacle Pond
Cranston police identified the body found in Spectacle Pond off Garfield Avenue as Kenneth Stedman.
Stedman, 69, was reported missing one week earlier, found dead after a caller just before 7 p.m. Saturday reported seeing what looked to be a body floating in the water.
The body was recovered and on Monday, authorities identified Stedman. Police explained how the search for Stedman began since he was reported missing by his family on Feb. 11.
A Facebook post by East Providence police on Sunday indicated that Stedman was found dead.
“The Johnston Police Department would like to offer our condolences to the family & friends of Kenneth Stedman. We would also like to thank the public for their assistance in locating him,” the post said.
Stedman was last seen at the McDonald’s located at 1377 Atwood Ave.
No signs of foul play were found at the scene, according to police, and the cause of Stedman’s death was determined to be drowning.

Stedman, 69, was last seen at the McDonald’s located at 1377 Atwood Ave., according to police.
Police said Stedman stands 5-foot-5, weighs about 140 pounds, has brown eyes and is bald. He was last seen wearing a navy blue coat, yellow shirt and brown pants.
Stedman drives a 2008 Ford Focus bearing Rhode Island registration KV99. Police said he’s known to frequent McDonald’s and Burger King restaurants, public libraries and Barnes & Noble bookstores.
