Bea was teary eyed while Miss International 2012 Ikumi Yoshimatsu of Japan was passing her the crown. Before she won the title, Bea delivered her very touching speech. She mentioned the tragedy that hit the country several weeks ago.

“The whole world saw how my country the Philippines suffered. The agony of my people was felt, but one by one, country to country came to help. I would like to thank all the nations who helped my country in our darkest hours. You have opened my eyes and heart on how important it is if we all support each other.”

“If I become Miss International, I will uphold international camaraderie to sustain the spirit of sympathy and to continually share the message of hope. I believe that whatever the calamity may come to us, as long as we have each other, there will be hope. Thank you.”

Based on the report, this is the fifth time that the country has won the Miss International title. Past winners are Precious Lara Quigaman, Gemma Cruz-Araneta, Melanie Marquez, and Aurora Pijuan.

Before she went to Japan for the competition, the newly-crowned Miss International has also delivered her very emotional speech. “I’m dedicating my pageant for the Haiyan or Yolanda victims.

“I’m not going there just as Bea Santiago, but as Miss Philippines. If I win or if I make it, that would bring happiness to them and make them proud,” Bea said.
