Military Technology Has Come a Long Way

The military in the United States continues to amaze with all of the technological breakthroughs they keep making. This is one of the main things that sets the military in America apart from the military forces in other parts of the world. However, these advances have not just been made in terms of weaponry. All facets of the military have benefited from the innovations of many of the world’s top contractors. Here are a few of the best examples of how military technology has come a long way.

1. Drones

Drones have been in the news quite a bit during the past several years. Many people are buying their own drones to fly around their neighborhood. However, drones also have many very useful applications for the military. Drones are now being used to launch missile strikes against terrorist targets in foreign countries. They are ideal because they can be flown by remote control. This means that no pilot will need to risk his or her life on a potentially dangerous mission. No human life will be lost if a drone gets shot down. These military drones are very accurate and have completely changed the way that the military determines its strategy.

2. Security

Security has always been a prime concern for the military. Unfortunately, there are now more threats to the United States than ever before. This has made it even more essential for the American military to use the newest technology to secure their various bases and installations. Gibraltar is an example of a company that manufactures security bollards that are commonly used around military bases. These are used as a way of thwarting a terrorist who might try to ram a vehicle through the front gates. The use of security systems that can detect heat sources created by humans is also fairly new.

Military personnel in locations like Iraq and Afghanistan are confronted with bombs on almost a daily basis. Therefore, it is necessary for some of these men and women to be trained to deactivate bombs. The risk of death in this job is very high. However, new advances in the equipment that is used by bomb disposal personnel has helped to save lives. The material that their suits are made out of is stronger than just a few years ago. It is able to withstand a very powerful blast. This has caused fewer deaths and injuries to occur.

4. Smart bullet

This particular item is still in the early stages of development and a few years away from being used in combat situations. However, it will be a huge breakthrough if the tests are successful. Basically, this is a completely self-guided bullet that will be able to hit targets that are located more than one mile away from the shooter. The combat advantages this could give to the U.S. military are extraordinary.

5. Radar backpack

There is always the risk of an enemy sneak attack when soldiers are on enemy soil. Therefore, it is very important for a soldier to constantly be aware of his or her surroundings at all times. The radar backpack is a revolutionary tool that allows the user to monitor all of the activity within the range of the radar. This makes it impossible for an American soldier to be taken by surprise.
