Michigan police identify Eugene Troutman as man found dead in Grand River
Grand Rapids Police in Michigan have announced the identity of the man found Sunday in the Grand River near the 6th Street Dam as Eugene Troutman.
Troutman, 59, was a long time resident of Georgia. His body was found on November 11 near the 6th Street Dam by a fisherman as the human body submerged underwater near Fish Ladder Park.
Authorities said it had been there for some time and was in “fairly bad condition.”
“Until the point that we know and can determine how long the body’s been in there, we treat it as an actual rescue and a cold water drowning, but it didn’t take long to realize that the body had been in there for some time,” Battalion Chief Collin Kelly said.
Patrol officers and Grand Rapids Fire Department river rescue units recovered the body and determined that the man had been “deceased beyond medical efforts.”
Police reported that there were no initial signs of foul play.
Troutman’s death has been ruled “accidental” by the Kent County Medical Examiner.
On Friday, Nov. 16, police sent out a press release asking for help identifying the man, who didn’t have any distinguishing tattoos or piercings. In less than three hours after the release went out, police reported a successful identification of the body.
