Michael Rooker talks MegaCon, Stan Lee, ‘Walking Dead,’ ‘Mallrats 2,’ ‘GOTG’

From MegaCon in Orlando, back to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, past Days of Thunder and Mallrats and into The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy – Michael Rooker’s interview with Dispatch Radio covers a lot of ground quickly.

Michael Rooker TWD screening“I like that,” he says, reflecting on the incredibly diverse resume of characters he’s played over the years. “You know it’s a cool thing when you can ride a horse all day long and have a six-gun strapped to your waist. You’re a cowboy…you’re jumping in a racecar, or you’re climbing a mountain: It’s very cool, very cool – doing what I do.

Thousands of fans agree as they flocked to see Michael at MegaCon in Orlando where he partnered with Walking Dead co-star Norman Reedus for many pictures and even crashed Stan Lee’s panel.

“It’s a lot of fun actually,” adding details about his friendship with Reedus and notes that Stan “is still ‘The Man’ and I went out there and it was amazing.”

Michael chronicles many of his films, saying that “I believe in having a good time out there” and confessed that the “apple doesn’t far from the tree” when explaining his real life personality comes to life in his characters, like Merle.

There is ton packed in this quick interview as Rooker notes how they wanted Henry to be scary, Days of Thunder is a “rite of passage,” excited about GOTG, the sequel (James Gunn is working on the script) and returning to Mallrats.

“We’re about to do….in the works to do, what I’ve been hearing is Mallrats 2. I’m going to do that,” he confirms.

Mallrats 2 will see 18 characters return (15 actors are locked in) with 6 new characters being added, creator Kevin Smith recently said.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is still quite a bit in the future, set for May 5, 2017. Note that it may be called Guardians 3000, more here.
