Michael Fassbender talks ‘X-Men First Class’ sequel, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Alien’

While promoting “Prometheus,” the Sci-Fi Ridley Scott film, Michael Fassbender discussed returning as Magneto for the sequel to last summer’s hit film “X-Men: First Class.”

In an interview with Digital Spy published on Tuesday, the Irish actor revealed his involvement in the story development.

“I’m very excited about visiting the world of Magneto again. I’ve sat down with (producer) Simon Kinberg and he was telling me what ideas he has, and I was chipping in as well. So I’m very excited, there’s some really cool ideas in there.”

While the actor has found success with the role, he admitted to Film News UK, published on Tuesday as well, that he’s not a huge Sci-Fi fan or comic book collector.

“I liked Star Wars I suppose, which is pretty sci-fi. But I’ve never been someone who collected comic books or any of that sort of thing. Other than Star Wars, which I did collect lots of things. [Like the] Ewok village that I still have… and the Millennium Falcon.”

Fassbender, who plays the android David in “Prometheus” alongside Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce, went on to praise director Scott.

“Ridley’s amazing, such a nice guy too, there’s a real energy and youth to him.”

The new “Prometheus” featurette released on Monday highlights the new ship, the motivations behind the design and Fassbender explained the story further.

“Prometheus is the name of the ship that the crew are on. They go off to this solar system to find answers if they can, possibly are there creators out there and why we exist basically. David is the butler on board the ship.”

While this is in the “Alien” universe, a prequel to the original film which starred Sigourney Weaver, the “Shame” star says it’s not crucial to the “Prometheus” storyline.

“It’s of the DNA of Alien, you wouldn’t really need to see any of the other films. Although you should, because they’re great films. You don’t need to to figure out what’s going on in the story.”

“Prometheus” opens June 8, 2012.

The “First Class” sequel is set to film in January with the cast all set to return, including Jennifer Lawrence, who will be filming the “Hunger Games” sequel this fall.
